Welcome to our young adult overnight backpacking trip; our Frassati Outdoor Ministry Team is excited about this unique opportunity for community spiritual growth and fellowship in the great outdoors. This will be an amazing opportunity to experience the beauty of God’s creation, all while deepening your faith and connecting with peers. Each day we'll have opportunities for communal prayer, Mass and outdoor Adoration. You are invited to embrace the simplicity of the journey and leave behind anything that will distract you, like music or games on your cell, but to bring your pocket bible and journal for prayer and reflection.
Trip Details and Trail Description:
Our group will be limited to a total of 18 people, and is intended for those with previous overnight backpacking experience, are reasonably fit and capable of carrying their own weight (30+ lbs). Everyone will need to sign a liability waver for this trip as well (which will be done Wednesday evening before the trip, when we have our pre-trip meeting). Our trip will be an out and back trip. The specifics of our trip depend on trail and snow conditions, if any concerns arise, we will decide closer to departure day if we will do option 1 or 2.
You must attend an in-person pre-trip meeting at on Wednesday, June 18th, 6:00pm at UW Newman Center (if necessary only, you may Zoom in). We will go over specifics for the trip, review the trail and conditions, iron out details (missing gear, carpools etc), and answer any concerns. Please bring a list of the gear you own, pictures of previously packed out items would be preferred.
We will depart Saturday morning and return early Sunday afternoon.
Option 1: Gravel Lake
Pass: Northwest Forest Pass/America the Beautiful
Join us for a beautiful hike to Gravel Lake. Get ready for crossing Kendall Katwalk along the PCT. Fr. Chrysostom will be celebrating Mass for us at the lake, and we will pray compline before bed.
We will meet at the trailhead at 8AM on Saturday, 6/21 (recommended 7AM departure time from Seattle) and be back in Seattle around 12:00 PM on Sunday, 6/22.

This is a hard hike. It is 7.5 miles one way to the campsite, with 2,500 feet of elevation gain. Must have previously backpacked before.
Option 2: Snow Lake
Pass: Northwest Forest Pass/America the Beautiful
Possible Parking permit from Alpental required. (TBD)
Join us for a beautiful hike to Snow Lake. Get ready for stunning alpine lakes. Fr. Chrysostom will be celebrating Mass for us at the lake, and we will pray compline before bed.
We will meet at the trailhead at 8AM on Saturday, 6/21 (recommended 7AM departure time from Seattle) and be back in Seattle around 12:00 PM on Sunday, 6/22.

This is a medium hike. It is approximately 3 miles one way to the campsite, with 1,350 feet of elevation gain. Potential to hike to Gem Lake for either camping or day hiking. This is an additional 2 miles (one way) and 800 ft of elevation gain.
